Ukraine's grain stocks total nearly 18 million tonnes by April

Ukraine's carry-over stocks of grains totalled nearly 18 million tonnes by early April, with the domestic demand for April-June at the level of 7.4 million tonnes.

This was reported by the press-service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine on April 12.

In particular, the domestic resources of wheat totalled 5.5 million tonnes, including 3.9 million tonnes of milling wheat, while the market demand to the end of 2012-13 marketing year is estimated at 2.7 million tonnes and 1.4 million tonnes, respectively.

Taking into account the currently available resources and rates of exports, the carry-over stocks of grains as of July 1 may reach 5.5 million tonnes, which corresponds to the average indices during several recent years. As of the beginning of the new marketing year wheat stocks are forecasted at 2.7 million tonnes.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy also noted that taking into account the wheat storage volumes and the situation with the planting campaign, the export potential of Ukraine on the crop in the current marketing year is estimated at 6.6 million tonnes.
