USDA: Russia lifts BSE ban on Canada

The Russian Federal Veterinary Surveillance Services (VPSS) said Canada could again resume its beef exports to Russia after receiving sufficient assurances from the Canadian veterinary service that adequate measures have been taken to control the bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE).

The exports will include boneless beef, beef by-products and brood cattle.

The VPSS also considered Canadian ranchers to have met the requirements enforced by the Russian authorities.

Russia has banned all Canadian live cattle and beef exports in May 2003 after the discovery of BSE from a cow in Alberta.
