Vietnam seeks Ukraine's consideration on imports of Vietnamese seafood
Vietnam's National Agro Forestry Fisheries Quality Assurance (NAFIQAD) has sent an official letter to require the State Committee of Veterinary Medicine of Ukraine to consider importing Vietnamese seafood.
On January 9, 2014, NAFIQAD received the official letter No.15-9-2-3-8/124 sent by the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service of Ukraine (SVPS) to inform the result of its inspections of seafood export companies in Vietnam in December 2013. Accordingly, due to detected problems of food safety in their processing chain, some companies were taken out of the list of seafood exporters to Ukraine.
NAFIQAD asked banned companies to take measures to solve problems. The agency also directed its regional centres of agro forestry fisheries quality assurance to suspend health certificates delivered to these companies' products exported to Ukraine.
NAFIQAD implemented inspections of documents and processing plants of involved companies. All of them have solved problems previously alerted by the Ukrainian inspection delegation, and have met requirements on food safety of both Ukraine and Vietnam.
