Ukraine's meat imports about 19% down in two months
From January to February 2011, Ukrainian meat imports significantly dropped against the same period of the previous year, when exports increased, the country's State Statistics Service says.
Exports of meat and edible offal from Ukraine in January-February 2011 grew in value terms by 100.1% (to US$20.81 million) compared with the same period in 2010. However, imports of these products declined significantly: by 18.8% (to US$31.82 million).
Exports of milk and dairy products, eggs and honey for the said period increased by 19.2% (to US$105.47 million), imports by 30% (to US$198.3 million).
In February this year, Director of the Agrarian Market Development Department of the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food of Ukraine, Anatoliy Rozghon predicted that in 2011 meat imports will fall to around 350,000 tonnes compared with 420,000 tonnes imported in 2010.
