Bulgaria meat processor launches second plant

Bulgarian meat processing company Delicates 2 Ltd (Delicacy) launched Sunday (Apr 12) its second plant, in which it invested BGN10 million (US$6.78 million).

The company's owner Velichko Yakov said the money came from both the company's profit and from bank credit.

The new facility has 5,500 square metres of working halls, and is equipped with new machines and facilities Tipper Tie Alpina, CFS, Doleschsl, and HTS.

After the new plant is functional the company will have an increased capacity of 44 tonnes of meat processed daily as compared to 20-25 tonnes in 2008, costing BGN30 million.

The company's owners expect to be able to use the full working capacity in two years, and plans to create a distribution network in Bulgaria, and start exporting to the EU.

Yakov said that the new facility will produce short lasting cold cuts, which will be distributed to smaller dealers, explaining that bigger distribution companies are risky because they can offer unprofitable prices to smaller companies.

He believes that the company can easily meet EU quality standards, and sell products in the higher price range. The company grew by 39 percent in 2008 year-on-year.
