Chile exempts Australian dairy exporters from in-country audits

Australian dairy exporters to Chile will no longer be required to undergo in-country audits by Chilean officials on a regular basis, National Tribune reported.

Because of Australia's high-quality dairy regulations, the Chilean Agriculture and Livestock Service (SAG) agreed to exempt Australia from this requirement.

Prospective exporters pay a high price for in-country audits. The elimination of the audit requirement and effective recognition of Australia's regulatory system for dairy exports follows years of negotiations between Australia and Chile.

Australian dairy producers and exporters are now better positioned to capitalise on Chile's rapidly expanding dairy market.

Exempt Resolution 954 became effective last month. This means that the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry (DAFF) is now in charge of approving and listing Australian dairy manufacturing establishments seeking to export to Chile.

The list of Australian approved establishments is available on SAG's website and is updated on a regular basis at the request of DAFF. This will no longer require SAG officials to travel to Australia.
