Japan's importation of Vietnamese shrimps continues
After the ban in using antibiotic Enrofloxacin in shrimp breeding has been strictly enforced since March 1, shipments of Vietnamese shrimp products continue to head for the Japanese market.
After the ban enforce, the quality of Vietnamese shrimp products has been improved. In March, only one shipment of Vietnamese products was detected to have contained Enrofloxacin residues, said the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers. Since the beginning of this year, Vietnamese seafood association warned farmers not to use Enrofloxacin to treat prawns or shrimps infected with diseases.
Japan was leading importer of Vietnam-produced shrimp as the country, infected by the tsunami and nuclear power plant disaster in last March, spent US$607.2 million on importing shrimp from the Southeast Asian country in 2011.
