US broiler production sees increase in sets and placements
The latest data from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) showed that US broiler sets and placements last week have seen an increase compared to the previous year, Brownfield Ag News reported.
According to the USDA report, 244.383 million broiler-type eggs were placed in incubation, showing a minimal change from the previous week but a 2% rise compared to the same period last year. The average hatchability rate remained steady at 79%.
These chicks are expected to enter meat production later this month.
Placement of chicks from mid-March into meat production channels saw a notable increase, surpassing a million from the previous week to reach 189.489 million head. This marks a 2% rise from the previous year, with these chicks scheduled for processing by early June.
Georgia, Alabama, and Arkansas maintain their positions as the top three US states for broiler production.
