Norway salmon farms Grieg and SalMar announce higher harvests for Q1
Grieg and SalMar, two major salmon farm companies in Norway, have announced higher harvests for Q1 2022, Fish Information & Services reported.
Grieg Seafood said production in the first three months of this year should reach 16,900 tonnes, compared to 13,600 tonnes harvested in Q1 2021. This is the combined total harvest from its farms in Norway (9,600 tonnes and 5,200 tonnes from the Rogaland and Finnmark regions) and British Columbia, Canada (2,100 tonnes).
The company said average salmon farming costs in Norway are NOK 42 (~US$4.76; NOK 1 = US$0.11) per kg and CAD 7.9 (~US$6.24; CAD 1 = US$0.79) per kg for British Columbia.
Since the start of this year, the average salmon prices are above NOK 70 (~US$7.93) per kg.
Grieg Seafood sold its Shetland and Scotland business to Scottish Sea Farms for GBP 164 million (~US$213 million; GBP 1 = US$1.30) in December 2021.
SalMar said its Q1 harvest will reach over 45,000 tonnes, compared to 36,900 tonnes year-on-year. This is the combined total harvest from its farms in central Norway (24,900 tonnes), north Norway (16,800 tonnes) and Iceland (3,400 tonnes).
SalMar is co-owner of Scottish Sea Farms.
