Ukraine sows early spring grains over 53% of planned areas
Ukraine planted early spring grains and leguminous crops throughout the areas of 2.1 million ha, or 53% of the estimate as of April 9, 2012, reported the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.
According to the announcement, agrarians started sowing sunflower seeds, and covered the areas of 17 thsd ha.
Agricultural enterprises sowed spring crops instead of the perished of winter crops throughout 266 thsd ha from the planned level of nearly 2.5 million ha, requiring resowing works.
According to the Ministry, Ukraine already completed the first additional fertilising of winter grain crops, which was held throughout the areas of 6.1 million ha.
In 2012, the general grain sowing areas (including winter and spring crops) is forecasted at the level of 15.8 million ha, almost the same level as in 2011.
