Honduras providing support to local pork consumption and production

Honduras's Secretariat of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG) is currently providing support to the national swine industry in order to unify the different associations that make up the sector.

Technical assistance will be provided through the National Agri-Food Health and Safety Service (Senasa) and the Directorate of Livestock Science and Technology (Dicta) to support the increase in consumption and domestic pork production.

Several meetings were held with industry representatives, with dates proposed for actions that will benefit domestic pork production.

The structuring of a traceability system has been agreed upon where the consumer knows the final origin of what they are consuming, the identification of processing plants with all the requirements that Senasa grants, and technical assistance for all the associations where Dicta, a dependency of SAG, is integrated.

Additionally, import issues will be reviewed to understand how much is being imported and how much is being purchased from domestic producers and, above all, to review the cold chain.
