Iran's 2012 farmed seafood production to be over 300,000 tonnes

If the infrastructure is available and there is no water shortage, Iran's production of farmed seafood is projected to be more than 310,000 tonnes this year, ISNA reported.

Last year (Iran's solar year ended on March 19), Iran produced 280,000 tonnes of fish and seafood last year.

A little more than 8,000 tonnes of farmed shrimp were produced and that figure is expected to reach 15,000 tonnes said Mehdi Shakouri, Deputy for Aquaculture at the Iran Fisheries Organisation.

Because of higher foreign currency exchange rates there will be greater motivation to produce and export shrimp this year.
