Ukraine reports slow spring grain planting

Ukraine planted spring grains on 897,900 hectares to April 1, 56.2-percent less than on the same date last year, the state statistics committee reported Thursday (Apr 9).

The slow pace of this year's spring planting campaign is due to adverse weather conditions.

The total figure of planted spring grains included spring barley, which was planted to date on 731,700 hectares, 55.9-percent less than on the same date last year.

Ukraine plans to plant spring grains for this year's harvest on 7.7 million hectares, including spring wheat on 300,000 hectares, spring barley on 3.5 million hectares and spring corn on 2.5 million hectares.
