Police in Hebei, China detain traders of sour pork
Local police Xinle City of Hebei Province neighboring Beijing have detained six suspects involved in the sale of sour pork and seized their pork products.
Nine peddlers were charged with selling pork with water injected, and meat of dead or sick pigs earlier this year.
About 512 tonnes of pork were confiscated and 123 tonnes of sour pig meat were destroyed by the Ministry of Agriculture and the State Food and Drug Administration.
Local government officials and industry regulators were reprimanded according to administrative and Communist Party disciplines.
Last November, Shanghai police arrested three people who had mixed the banned drug, clenbuterol into pig feed to increase lean meat, causing more than 300 consumers to be hospitalised after eating the meat.
