Hong Kong bans beef imports from US plant
Authorities in Hong Kong Friday (Apr 7) suspended beef imports from a US plant for mad cow disease violations, but further clarified that a blanket ban on all US beef would not be imposed.
The ban was imposed after bones in beef imports from the Cargill Meat Solutions Corporation were discovered, according to a statement from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department.
Hong Kong resumed beef imports from the US in Dec 2005, under the condition that only boneless beef from cattle younger than 30 months can be imported.
