20,000 tonnes of pork from China's state reserves to be auctioned April 10

The China Merchandise Reserve Management Centre said it will release a further 20,000 tonnes of frozen pork from state reserves for auction on April 10, 2020, reported Reuters.

This comes after the centre had already released more than 250,000 tonnes of frozen pork from state reserves since the beginning of 2020 to supplement a meat shortage in China.

The African swine fever in China decimated more than 40% of its swine herd, with the movement restrictions imposed due to COVID-19 outbreak further affecting recovery of swine herds in the country.
