Cargill closes its US meat plant in Pennsylvania due to COVID-19
Cargill's Pennsylvania meat plant is closed until further notice, further affecting the US food supply for retail that has seen increased demand because of the pandemic, reported Reuters.
The Hazelton, Pennsylvania plant produces ground beef, steaks, beef roasts and pork products aimed at the nationwide retail market.
Cargill said it wants to safeguard its 900 workers at this facility from the COVID-19 affected community in Hazelton, adding that it will reopen the meat plant as soon as it safe.
The company said it will continue to work with its farmers, workers and customers to keep the food supply ongoing.
Yesterday, Tyson Foods and JBS USA announced they were temporarily closing meat plans in Pennsylvania and Iowa because of COVID-19.
