South Korea's seafood imports from Russia decline

 
 

 

South Korea has imported 107,113 tonnes of seafood from Russia in March this year, 21% lower compared to the 136,169 tonnes imported in the same period of 2022, Fish Information & Services reported.

 

By fish species, 52,375 tonnes of frozen pollock were imported, which is a 37% decrease from 82,852 tonnes in 2022.

 

12,647 tonnes of frozen herring were imported, which is a 3% decrease from the 13,023 tonnes in the same period last year.

 

Only 58 tonnes of frozen pink salmon were imported, compared to 13,023 tonnes in 2022.

 

The amount of imported frozen Pacific cod also decreased by 10% to 4,873 tonnes.

 

Imports of frozen sardines grew this year, up by 351% to 9,265 tonnes from 2,055 tonnes in 2022.

 

The import average unit price for frozen pollock was US$1.03/kg (down 10%), for frozen herring it was US$0.78/kg (down 34%), for frozen sardines it was US$0.49/kg, and for frozen cod it was US$4.25/kg.

 

South Korea's seafood imports from Russia totaled US$303.2 million by March 2023, down 13% from US$349.79 million in 2022, and the average unit cost rose by 10.2% to US$2.83/kg.

 

Russia made up 34% of the total 317,361 tonnes of seafood imports into South Korea.
