Whole Oceans to start work on the biggest largest land-based aquaculture systems in the world

Land-based aquaculture firm Whole Oceans announced it will start work on one of the biggest largest land-based aquaculture systems in the world at Bucksport town, Maine state, US, Fish Information & Services reported.

The salmon aquaculture company is finalising an agreement with a regional firm to grade and clean-up the site for the facility, and will work on one of Whole Oceans' farm lots.

The company based in Maine state announced the purchase of the site in 2018, adding that it will spend US$250 million into this project with the goal of producing 50,000 metric tonnes of Atlantic salmon annually.

The project was originally entangled in a legal dispute between Whole Oceans' parent firm Emergent Holdings and GNP Consulting. The latter was hired to support aquaculture projects, but was terminated after they had misjudged the planned aquaculture facility by US$150 million less.
