Ukraine forecasts 14 million tonnes of corn exported in 2012/2013

Ukraine is expected to export 14 million tonnes of corn in the 2012/2013 marketing year (October 2012-September 2013), according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

According to Serhii Petrenko, deputy chief of the ministry's Department of Economic Development and the Agrarian Market, this volume of exports will be facilitated by a high corn yield, estimated at 66 kg/ hectare; and an increased share of corn in the total volume of winter crops after the replanting of winter crops.

The ministry maintains its forecast of grain harvest at 49-50 million tonnes in 2012, and forecast for wheat harvest is at least 8 million tonnes.

The ministry estimates that Ukraine has exported 15,400 tonnes of grain since the beginning of the current marketing year, including 9,300 tonnes of corn, the Ukrainian News reported previously.
