Brazil to raise issue about EU chicken export subsidies

Brazil will raise the issue about EU's export subsidies for chickens at the next round of free trade agreements between Mercosur and the EU.

Present at the conference as well was John Clarke, director for international affairs at the EU Commission. Clarke remarked that the EU is prepared to review the tariffs and duties it has on Brazilian agricultural commodities, but only as part of a new free-trade agreement with Mercosur.

Brazil, with its current high domestic consumption of poultry (47.5 kilogramme per capita), and being the world's largest exporter of chicken and its third largest producer, needs to increase exports for its industry to grow.
