Ukraine's 2006/07 grain exports seen at 8-10 million tonnes

Ukraine is likely to export between 8 million and 10 million tonnes of grain in the 2006/07 marketing year, Deputy Agriculture Minister Ivan Demchuk said.

This compares with an estimated export volume of 11-12 million tonnes in the 2005/06 marketing year.

Demchuk said to a large extent the amount of grain exported would be determined by the development of the domestic pig industry, as the agriculture ministry was forecasting a considerable increase in the number of pigs in Ukraine in 2006/07, which would require a lot of feed grain.

He also said Ukraine would be exporting less wheat and more barley and corn.
