China Hog: Prices surge 9% in five weeks (week ended Apr 1, 2024)

Tightened hog supplies continued to push up prices, prompting farmers to withhold releases. Demand remained stable as slaughterhouses increased stockpiles in preparation for the upcoming Qingming Festival market.

 

Over the past  five weeks, hog prices have surged 9% accumulatively.

 

Compared with a week ago, pork slaughter volume expanded 1.2% to 8,741 tonnes while pork carcass prices rose by 1.2% to RMB20.45/kg.

 

On average, hog prices increased 1.3% to

RMB15.40/kg, from RMB15.21/kg over the past week. Compared with a year ago, prices were higher by 2%.

 

Limited supply is poised to lend support to hog market.
