European Commission approves US$7.7 million scheme to support pig farmers in Belgium

The European Commission has approved a €6.5 million (US$7.7 million) Belgian scheme to support pig farmers with breeding sows in Belgium's Walloon region, taking into consideration the impact of the pandemic.

The scheme was approved under the State Aid Temporary Framework.

Under the scheme, the public support will take the form of direct grants of up to €100,000 (US$117,704) per beneficiary to partially address the loss of income farmers incurred due to COVID-19.
