China publishes technical guidelines to help pig farmers monitor ASF
China's Ministry of Agriculture has published the "Technical Guidelines for Monitoring African Swine Fever Variant Strains in Pig Farms" to guide pig farmers in monitoring and detecting ASF, especially mutant strains, and improve its prevention and control.
Variant strains of ASF include gene-deleted strains, natural variant strains and naturally attenuated strains. Compared with the strain introduced in 2018, the genome sequence and pathogenicity of this type of strains have undergone significant changes. After live pigs are infected with this virus, the incubation period is prolonged and the clinical manifestations are mild.
In the later stage, joint swelling and skin hemorrhagic necrosis may appear.
