Qatari food company Baldana to establish milk farm in Algeria

Qatari food company Baldana is in the final stages of negotiating an agreement with the Algerian government to establish a farm dedicated to milk production, including the production of powdered milk, aligning with Algeria's efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in milk production, The Dairy News Global reported.

Baldana, a key player in Qatar's agricultural sector renowned for its milk and dairy products, aims to inaugurate a vast farm spanning 100,000 hectares in Algeria.

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune confirmed the forthcoming agreement, disclosing that the farm will be located in Adrar, southwestern Algeria.

Baldana, Qatar's largest milk and dairy producer, gained international recognition following the 2017 Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) crisis, which prompted a shift in the country's production focus.

Since its debut on the Qatar Stock Exchange in October 2019, Baldana has witnessed significant growth, expanding its brand presence both domestically and globally. The company operates one of the largest cattle farms in the region, covering 2.6 million square meters.

In a strategic move last July, Baldana increased its investment in Egypt's Juhayna Food Industries, a leading producer and marketer of dairy and juice products. This move follows Baldana's initial investment in May 2022, where it acquired a 10.1% stake in Juhayna Food Industries for QAR 2.5 million (US$686,000).
