Singapore to import eggs from Indonesia

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) announced that it has approved Indonesia to export eggs to Singapore, increasing the number of countries and regions accredited to export chicken eggs to Singapore to 18, Today Online reported.

The SFA approved Brunei to export chicken eggs to Singapore in December.

The SFA said supply fluctuations are still occasionally possible in Singapore due to various factors such as disease outbreaks and supply disruptions.

The agency said recent bird flu outbreaks in a number of nations had an impact on their poultry and egg production.

In order to support Singapore's food resilience, SFA also encouraged the food industry to diversify and import from different sources as part of business continuity plans.

Currently, about 70% of Singapore's egg supply comes from imports.

According to SFA, the upcoming construction of Singapore's fourth egg farm will increase the supply of locally produced eggs in the island nation.

Singapore's local egg farms will supply 50% of the country's egg needs once they are fully operational.
