Pork and chicken prices 20% and 23% up respectively in Cyprus
Russia's invasion into Ukraine has pushed pork prices in Cyprus 20% higher and chicken prices 23% up, Philenews Cyprus reported.
Lamb prices are also expected to rise 12%.
Raw materials such as grains and fuel have increased 70% since the conflict began, resulting in higher prices for finished products like meat.
Cyprus' House Agriculture Committee discussed the upcoming price increases as no measures were implemented to stop external factors like Russia's invasion affecting Cyprus' economy.
Antonis Ioannou, Deputy Director of Cyprus' Consumer Protection Service, said the market is free and competitive, but did not rule out implementing a ceiling price on primary products. Ioannou said the government will intervene in the market if prices of primary products are exploited.
