Russia reports swine fever outbreak in Volgograd region

 

 

An outbreak of classic swine fever was reported Tuesday (Apr 3) by the Volgograd regional office of the Russian Emergencies Ministry.

 

Between March 26 and Tuesday, 51 pigs died on a private holding in the village of Gorodishche in the Volgograd region.

 

The presence of classic swine fever was confirmed by the all-Russian veterinary research institute.

 

The dead pigs were burnt and quarantine imposed on the holding, while vaccination of animals was carried out in the region to prevent the spread of the disease.
