Poland's slaughter animal production higher in 2021 than 2010

The latest data from Poland's Central Statistical Office show that the country's production of slaughter animals (kilogramme in live weight per hectare of farmland) was significantly higher in 2021 than in 2010 (466.3kg versus 350.3kg), but slightly lower than in 2020, when it was 484.3kg/ha.

Pig production remained almost the same over these years, at 160.2kg/ha.

However, an upward trend in pork production per capita is evident. In 2021, it totaled 49.2kg per capita, about 1kg more than in 2012 and 2020. Beef production per capita was slightly lower than in 2020 (14.6kg versus 14.8kg), but much higher than in 2010 (10.1kg). A decline in per capita poultry production was observed in 2021 (68.7kg in 2021 versus 73.4kg in 2020). In contrast, this is still almost twice as much as in 2010, when per capita production was 35.8kg.

The overall trend in the number of livestock kept (cattle, pigs and sheep) indicate the continuation of the upward trend seen after 2015. In 2010, there were a total of 7,158 thousand head; in 2015, 6,740 thousand head; in 2020, 6,961 thousand head; and in 2021, 7,694 thousand head (in large animal units). An increase was recorded in the cattle and sheep populations, while Poland's pig population saw a steady downward trend (15244.4 in 2010 versus 10242.4 in December 2021).

The largest number of pigs is kept in Poland in the Wielkopolskie Voivodeship (4209.7 thousand head in 2021), followed by the Mazowieckie Voivodeship (1270.6 thousand head).
