Turkey cow's milk production up 13.4% in January

 

 

Cow's milk collected by integrated dairies in Turkey in January increased 13.4% to 845,191 tonnes compared with the same month last year.

 

Data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute also showed that drinking milk production by integrated dairies totalled 178,400 tonnes in January, an increase of 22.1% from the same month in 2017.

 

Cheese production from cow's milk reached 60,000 tonnes, an increase of 12% compared with the same month last year. Cheese production from sheep, goat, buffalo and mixed milk increased 90.9% to 616,000 tonnes compared with January 2017.

 

Yoghurt production increased 5% to 93,535 tonnes in January compared with the same month in 2017.

 

In January the average fat rate of cow's milk collected by integrated dairies was 3.4%, while the average rate of protein was 3.2%.

 

Turkey is the 9th-largest cow's milk producer in the world, with production reaching 16.7 billion kilogrammes (16.7 million tonnes) a year. It exports milk mainly to the EU, although the Turkish government has taken several steps to boost domestic demand for cow's milk.
