Philippines' wheat imports to reach 5.9 million metric tonnes in MY2024/25
The Manila, Philippines office of the US Department of Agriculture's Foreign Agricultural Service (USDA-FAS) has forecast Philippines' wheat imports in MY2024/25 to reach 5.9 million metric tonnes as global prices stabilise, the FAS reported in late-March.
The Philippines' corn production in the same period was forecast at 8.4 million metric tonnes, with imports increasing to one million metric tonnes to cover the increase in feed consumption.
FAS Manila also forecast milled rice production in MY2024/25 to increase to 12.125 million metric tonnes as the country emerges from the current El Nino and government spending on inputs and machinery contributes to increased yield.
Rice imports in the period was forecast at four million metric tonnes as domestic production covers the slight increase in demand.
