China to further boost unit yields of grain, oilseeds

China is aiming to boost its grain, oilseeds and cotton output through the expansion of a high-yield project this year, the Ministry of Agriculture said Thursday (April 2).

The ministry will implement the project at 2,600 areas to produce high yields of soy, rapeseed, rice, wheat, corn, cotton, peanut and potato, compared with 602 such areas last year, it said in a statement published on its Web site.

The project targets an output of 9 tonnes a hectare for wheat, 12 tonnes for corn and 3 tonnes for rapeseed.

It is also targeting an output of 10.5-13.5 tonnes per hectare for rice, 1.5-2.25 tonnes for cotton and 4.5 tonnes for peanut, said the ministry.
