Ukraine grain exports up 7 percent in March
                                             


Ukraine's grain exports in March rose 6.8 percent to 2.35 million tonnes from 2.2 million in February, according to the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation (UAC) on Wednesday (Apr 1).

 

March exports totalled one million tonnes of wheat and one million tonnes of corn, while barley shipments reached about 300,000 tonnes.

 

In February, wheat exports amounted to 1.05 million tonnes, with corn at 681,295 tonnes and barley at 387,182 tonnes.

 

Ukraine harvested a record of 53.3 million tonnes of grain in 2008, up from 29.3 million tonnes in 2007.

 

The farm ministry projected exports to reach 25 to 25.5 million tonnes in 2008-09, compared with four million tonnes in 2007-08, when grain was subjected to export restrictions.

 

Grain exports from July 2008-February 2009 totalled 16.68 million tonnes, according to data by the UkrAgroConsult.
