Iowa, US reports 7% increase in egg production in February 2024

 
 


According to the latest Chickens and Eggs report from the US Department of Agriculture's (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service, Iowa witnessed a significant surge in egg production during February 2024, with a total output of 1.06 billion eggs, marking a 7% increase compared to the previous February, Morning AgClips reported.

 

The report revealed that the average number of all layers on hand during February 2024 in Iowa was 43.5 million, representing a 1% rise from the previous year. Additionally, the eggs per 100 layers for February reached 2,428, reflecting a 6% increase compared to the same period last year.

 

Across the US, egg production totalled 8.62 billion during February 2024, marking a 5% increase from the previous year. This production comprised 7.39 billion table eggs and 1.22 billion hatching eggs, including 1.13 billion broiler-type hatching eggs and 93.7 million egg-type hatching eggs.

 

The average number of layers during February 2024 in the US totalled 377 million, slightly down by 1% from the previous year. However, February egg production per 100 layers increased by 6% compared to February 2023, reaching 2,288 eggs.

 

On March 1, 2024, the total layers in the US amounted to 377 million, with a slight 1% decrease from the previous year. These layers included 311 million producing table or market type eggs, 62.3 million producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.87 million producing egg-type hatching eggs. The rate of lay per day on March 1, 2024, averaged at 79.0 eggs per 100 layers, representing a 2% increase from March 1, 2023.

 

In February 2024, egg-type chicks hatched totalled 55.7 million, up 7% from February 2023, while eggs in incubators reached 56.5 million on March 1, 2024, a 5% increase from the previous year.

 

Furthermore, domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders saw a total of 236,000 during February 2024, reflecting a 3% increase from February 2023.

 

For broiler-type chicks, the report indicates a total of 789 million hatched during February 2024, marking a 3% increase from February 2023. Additionally, eggs in incubators totalled 731 million on March 1, 2024, up by 1% from a year ago.
