Ukraine to give out quotas for corn shipments

Quotas for exports of two million tonnes of corn from Ukraine in the second quarter of 2011 will be handed out at the auction, according to Nikholay Prysiazhnyuk, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food.

According to him, the government will carry over the draft law on realisation of the open auctions for consideration on April 5 and the financial funds received during the auction process will be used for re-equipment of the grain industry.

In autumn 2010, the government planned to realise the quotas distribution through the procedure of auctions, in order to prevent corruption, but the Ukrainian parliament did not accept the required draft laws. During that period, the government distributed grain quotas twice with the method, which caused essential criticising of the market participants, because many companies failed to receive the required documentation.
