JBS USA reduces beef production for two weeks due to COVID-19

The company said it will reduce beef production as its factory in Pennsylvania factory as managers showed flu symptoms, reported Reuters.

It is the first US-based plant to reduce operations due to COVID-19. JBS said its senior management team has been sent home.

It is unclear what level of production has been lowered at the Pennsylvania facility or if employees were being checked for COVID-19. There are more than 1,000 workers in the facility, which serves eastern seaboard and global customers.

According to a statement from JBS, the facility will continue fabrication and ground beef operations, aiming to return to normal operations by April 14, 2020.

Meat production facilities in Canada have also been temporarily closed because of COVID-19 concerns.
