Pfizer's Bovi-Shield GOLD FP vaccine to provide yearlong cattle protection
Cattle reproductive and respiratory vaccine Bovi-Shield GOLD FP is found to be able to provide yearlong foetal protection from Bovine Virus Diarrhoea (BVD), according to Pfizer Animal Health.
Research has shown that the injectable Bovi-Shield GOLD FP is able to protect cattle from the persistent infections of BVD and IBR abortion all year long. The vaccine is demonstrated to be safe for all stages of gestations, and is convenient as it can be applied according to the farmer's schedule while still giving a yearlong protection when used according to label directions.
Bovi-Shield GOLD FP not only provides foetal protection, it also protects respiratory system and aids in the prevention of BVD Type 2 testicular infection.
The vaccine is challenged a year after application and it is found that the BVD virus and IBR abortion have been successfully blocked from vaccinated heifers and their foetuses. Vaccinated cattle also have significantly reduced viremic days, with at least 95 percent to fall sick less, and there were no death loss compared to 70 percent of mortality in controls.
In addition, USDA has granted the vaccine an "aids in prevention" claim for respiratory disease protection.
