Japan to spend US$727 million to aid livestock and dairy farmers

The Japanese government will spend JPY 96.5 billion (~US$727 million; JPY 100 = US$0.75) from its reserve funds to aid livestock and dairy farmers affected by high compound feed prices, The Jiji Press reported.

This is part of the government's additional measures to tackle rising prices.

Japanese dairy farmers have been particularly affected by declining milk demand.

The government will increase its financial assistance to help these farmers cover higher input costs.

The amount of additional aid paid under a special measure will increase from JPY 6,750 (~US$50.87) per tonne of feed to JPY 8,500 (~US$64.06) for January to March.
