Live poultry events canceled in Nebraska, US
The Department of Agriculture of Nebraska, the United States, is canceling all live poultry events across the state.
The department said the order was issued due to a spike in highly parthenogenic avian influenza (HPAI) cases and is in effect until May 1.
The order prohibits birds of any type at events including fairs, expositions, swap meets, exotic sales and live bird auctions.
A fourth case of HPAI has been confirmed within the state in Holt County.
The Department of Agriculture and the United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service confirmed the virus in a backyard mixed flock.
State Veterinarian Dr. Roger Dudley said the farm has been quarantined and depopulation is underway, and the department has established a 6.2-mile surveillance zone.
