Argentina's 2021 pig slaughter up 6.6%

Argentina's total pig slaughter for 2021 came to 7,469,765 head, up 6.6% compared to the previous year (7,006,091 head).

Similarly, pork production increased by 6% compared to 2020, from 655,382 tonnes to 694,880 tonnes.

International trade results show that Argentina's pork imports stood at 41,744 tonnes in 2021, which represents a growth of 85.6% compared to 2020 (22,497 tonnes) and is the highest volume recorded since 2018. Exports decreased 27.1% compared to 2020, going from 41,345 tonnes to 30,121 tonnes.

As for general live hog prices, the annual average increased 69.5% compared to 2020, going from $80.8/kg (US$89.73) to $137/kg (US$152.15).
