Six Australian companies are seriously eyeing Indonesia's cow farm sector to build breeding business.
The interest of those investors was signed in memorandum of understanding (MOU) and Indonesian Cow Breeding Association (Gapsi) in Australia last week.
Those six firms include North Australian Cattle Company, Wellard Exports, South East Asia Livestock, Consolidated Pastoral Company, Austrex, and Landmark Global.
Indonesia's Agriculture Minister Suswono said actually there are nine companies ready for participating in the domestic cow farm business. However, three other investors candidates have yet to sign the deal.
Suswono said Indonesia aims to achieve self sufficiency in beef by 2014.
"Thus far, Indonesia is the big market for Australian companies. If Australian investors do not want to lose market, they have to invest now in Indonesia," he said.
Import is still needed to cover domestic beef needs which continues to grow despite the current effort made by the government to boost up beef self reliance.
