Turkey '08 grain production up 0.1 percent on-year at 29.2 million tonnes
Turkey's grain crop production rose 0.1 percent to 29.2 million tonnes in 2008 compared with 2007, the Turkish Statistics Institute, or TUIK, said Friday (March 27), the Ihlas News Agency, or IHA, reported.
TUIK didn't give any reason for the production increase. According to a statement posted on TUIK's Web site, wheat production rose 3.2 percent to 17.8 million tonnes, while barley output fell 18.9 percent to 5.9 million tonnes.
Vegetable production increased 6 percent to 27.2 million tonnes and fruit production rose 8.8 percent to 15.6 million tonnes last year, TUIK also showed.
