Ukraine's poultry production was up 4.6 percent on-year in 2006, totaling 160.4 million heads, compared to 2005.

Poultry production in large enterprises saw the largest increase, registering an increase of 11.8 percent, or 7.68 million heads whereas in the smaller companies, poultry production dropped by 640,000, a 0.7-percent decline.

Poultry production fell 4.4 percent in January this year, with production from large companies up 0.1 percent and those from smaller companies down 7.9 percent.

Ukrainian meat and poultry import was approximately 10,996 tonnes in January, nearly double that from the same month last year.

High import duty rates continue to make meat exports to Ukraine difficult.
