Russia suspends grain exports to EAEU
The press service of Russia's Council of Ministers has reported that Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has signed decrees on the temporary ban of grain exports to the states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and sugar to third countries.
The export of cereals like wheat, meslin (a mixture of wheat and rye), rye, barley and corn is prohibited until June 30, 2022. The export of white and cane sugar is prohibited until August 31.
The statement specifies that these measures are taken to protect the domestic food market from external restrictions. Russia has recently been hit by sanctions over its invasion of Ukraine.
According to the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, the country is more than 150% self-sufficient in cereals.
