Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil sees 71% growth in pork production between 2014 and 2020
Pork production in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, grew 71% between 2014 and 2020, a rate well above the country's average, which increased by 40% in the same period.
The data showing the growth of the pork chain in the state was provided by IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) and compiled by the Semagro (Secretariat of Environment, Economic Development, Production and Family Agriculture) technical team.
Despite the increase in production, Mato Grosso do Sul is sixth in the ranking of pork exports. Sales to the foreign market fell considerably in 2018 and 2019 due to prioritisation of the domestic market in these years. In 2020, there was a recovery in exports, which reached the highest level since 2015.
Hong Kong is currently Mato Grosso do Sul's main foreign trade partner in pork. In 2020, the volume exported to the Chinese Special Administrative Region grew 400%, despite the drop in participation among the countries.
Singapore stands out as the second country that consumes the most pork from the state, with a 20% participation in the balance of trade last year.
