Russia allows the import of US meat

Russia is being reinstated as an eligible importer of several US beef, pork and poultry facilities, according to the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service.

Beef and pork plants got the nod to ship product produced on or after March 23 after having undergone export verification for Russia by USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service. They are JBS USA's Grand Island, Neb., beef plant, that company's Marshalltown, Iowa, pork plant and John Morrell's Sioux Falls, S.D., pork plant.

Russia will also accept product produced on or after March 23 by House of Raeford (Raeford, N.C.), Sanderson Farms (Collins, Miss.), Pilgrim's Pride (Douglas, Ga.), Claxton Poultry Farms (Claxton, Ga.) and Wayne Farms (Jack, Ala.).

Russia also approved several poultry cold storages but banned a beef cold storage facility.
