Scotland's Scotbeef opens new meat processing plant
Scottish meat processor Scotbeef recently opened a new GBP17 million (about US$33.4 million) plant at Queenslie, Glasgow.
With an area of 120,000 sq feet including cold storage space for 5,000 tonnes of meat, the facility has the capacity to cut and pack 150 beef product lines daily for British and European buyers.
Since the EU lifted its ban on British beef in May 2006, Scotland has sought to woo back many of its markets in Belgium, Holland, France and Italy.
Scotbeef slaughters over 80,000 head of cattle annually, supplying beef to several UK retailers. The new plant will enable Scotbeef to process an animal from slaughter all the way to packing or ready meals for sale.
