South Korean fishing farms see output increased slightly last year

Fisheries output at South Korea's fishing farms rose slightly in 2025 from a year earlier, government data showed last week.
The country's total fisheries output amounted to 82,807 tonnes in 2025, up 1.1%, or 896 tonnes, from the previous year, according to the data from the Ministry of Data and Statistics. The figure marked the second consecutive year of increase, the data showed.
In terms of value, production grew 12.1% from ₩1.2 trillion (US$804.1 million) to ₩1.4 trillion (US$938.1 million) last year.
But the number of fish farming businesses and the amount of aquafeed consumed fell, in part due to the impact of high water temperatures, the ministry said.
There were a total of 1,420 fish farming businesses last year, down by 27, or 1.9%, on-year. The number of workers in the sector also declined by 143 people, or 2.7%.
Local fish farms consumed a total of 510,000 tonnes of aquafeed last year, down 4.6% from a year earlier, according to the data.
