Irish pigs slaughtered up 7.1% in February, cattle down 1.2%
The number of pigs slaughtered in Ireland in February increased 7.1% to 277,600 from last year's 259.200, while cattle decreased 1.2% to 148,900 from 150,600 in February 2017, the latest figures released by the Irish Central Statistics Office showed.
Sheep slaughterings in February 2018 similarly increased 7.1% from 207,000 in February 2017 to 221,600 this year.
Figures for the first two months this year showed a 7.2% increase in pig slaughterings and 2.5% rise in cattle slaughterings.
Sheep slaughtered in January-February increased 7.9%.
The figures include slaughterings at government-approved meat establishments, slaughterhouses and meat plants.
